@dadoctah: Ray mentions Hahira, Georgia in the song "Erik the Awful" from 1984. In the 1986 recording "Southern Air" Ray mentions that the flight he's on is going from Hahira, Georgia to Yazoo City, Mississippi. The Yazoo connection was did by design because Jerry Clower appeared on the recording as the pilot of the airplane. (Jerry lived in Yazoo City for decades). Ray plays the part of the passenger and Minnie Pearl is the stewardess. You can find that song on You Tube.

The Wikipedia page for Hahira, Georgia singles out this song among "several songs by comedian/songwriter Ray Stevens" for mentioning the town. I can't for the life of me think of another song, by Ray or anybody else for that matter, where the name appears.

I never get tired of watching this. Ray, Freemasonry and Shriner's Rock!

I remember listening to Ray Stevens when I was younger and I always loved his stuff. It wasn't until after being a Shriner's Lady and experiencing several Shriner's Conventions first hand, that I realized how right on this song is. Those Shriner's sure know how to have a good time, but they are even better at helping crippled kids and their families!

Shrine is considered the playground of Masonry. Blue Lodge takes a pledge against intemperance, etc, but an unusually visible minority among the Shriners seem to have forgotten they are Freemasons. Most of us really DO strive to be pillars of the community, hokey as it sounds.BTW, yes, I AM a Shriner (which also means I am a Mason). In Masonry, as in all other things, the scum settles to the bottom. Most Shriners are quite responsible. Sadly, some are not.
