if given release and promotion this song wouldve been a huge single on several charts. listeners would've seen summer's rock versatility. who know's what career change would ve occurred. fans would've relished the new dimension. ms. summer' s work is still appreciated and always will be. she certainly didn't need rock cred but it wouldve united fans. r.i.p. donna.

I read that Bruce loved Donna's vocals and really thought she could rock, but was limited by the racism in the rock sector....he wanted to write and perform the song with her to help ovecome that. Ultimately David Geffen nixed the duet, overdubbed Bruce's vocals with another layer of Donna's vocals and made it a solo Donna song. Bruce plays guitar on the released version and you can hear some of his vocals at the end of the song as it fades out.

These songs are from 1981 and were nominated at the 1982 awards. Protection was nominated at the 1983 awards as it was released in 1982.

Since the record label that the song was recorded for was Geffen, Donna's label, it is very possible the duet is owned by Donna's family now.
