I would clarify the point: Amish 'shun' modern things, but they in themselves are not evil things. It is the dependency on man created things that they feel corrupts a person, so they don't use them, as a rule.They are not stupid people either. A lifting machine that could lift a load off of a hurt worker much faster than rigging up a team of horses could, is smart and thoughtful thinking. It made setting the 2 main sections in place 100% safer.No harm, no foul, all you finger pointers.

Actually in most cases were they have electricity in their house it is a generator. A lot of Amish are using some form of electricity. The reason they are known not to have electronics is because it takes up time they should be spend with the lord in pray and study. Most of them are truly caring and nice people. I grow up next to a huge Amish community. And some of my best friends are Amish. They are very open and kind. If you every have a chance to talk to someone from the faith, please do.

@moseseseseses Amish rules are kind of complex and dont suit simple reduction well. But they basically take note of the fact that Jesus healed on a sunday and took that as a "Follow the rules closely,,but saving lives is paramount above all." The electricity thing is more cultural anyway, they feel compelled to live "The old way", but not at the expense of letting someone die of an easily treated disease. I think they are admirable.

They teach that it is wrong to use electricity, but when they get sick, and have to go see a doctor and be put in a hospital for medical care , now all of a sudden it is ok to use electricity. If using electricity is wrong sometimes, why is it not wrong all the time? Religion makes a fool out of people doesn't it, and really sends a lot of people to hell, but Jesus Christ the Son of God saves. Aren't you glad that Jesus never said: Thou shalt not use electricity.
