ONE WOOD FURNITURE

There are so many ways of doing up a bathroom but before you embark on costly changes and renovations, you must know what you want and what you can afford.
1. You want the bathroom tiles or painted walls to complement the colored sanitary ware. So you either decide on what color and type of sanitary ware you want and then choose the tiles or paint to match it. Or the other way round.
2. You want to retain the clinical white sanitary ware but splash out on color for tiles or painted walls. This is the cheapest way of getting a new look.
3. If you want to tear down a wall and make structural changes as well as put in new tiles, new sanitary ware, try not to reshuffle the locations of the sanitary fittings. This is because extensive research and planning for the best bathroom layout has been done by the original architect and relocation will incur additional consultancy fee and plumbing services. Besides, unless you really create additional space, switching the various facilities around will not make much difference.
4. You really have a very small budget and can't even afford to build a false wall or lower the ceiling to hide the water heater and the exposed pipes. In this case you have to make the ugly pipes part of the decor by painting it in a bold color to contrast with the walls or paint it the same color as the walls so that it appears to merge quite nicely.

Shower or Bathtub
There are good reasons for installing a shower together with a bathtub. The average shower uses only one-sixth of the water required for a bath. For a family this means big savings on water consumption and heating. Besides, a quick shower is invigorating. Or course when you are tired and grimy after a hard day or tennis game, you'll probably like to soak away your weariness in the bath.
Privy Privacy
There are two kinds of privacy that you must consider. The first is privacy from outsiders. This would normally have been taken care of by the architect. Your window panes should be frosted (with a pearly coating) to allow natural light to come through. And you should have window grills - if you are on the lower floors - to keep out snoopers.
The other kind of privacy comes when you have more than one family member making use of he bathroom. One person may be taking a shower while another is brushing his teeth. Naturally the one taking his shower wants some privacy, while the one brushing his teeth doesn't want to get splashed! So you can install a bath screen. They come in aluminum with frosted glass or fiber glass or in plastic on curtain tracks. You get wide selection, usually from the shops which stock sanitary ware and fittings.
